I switched to CCS for being user friendly in resources allocating and cost control. The main thing is that we speak the same language what we did for preparing the estimate.
Further during the pre-bid stage we use the cashflow module for predicting the amount and timing of maximum funding required.
Why dont you use P3 extensions. See installation diskSupportUtils. There are a lot of utilities in Excel format (see subdir Excel). For resources allocation use ACTIVITY.XLS or ActivityMod.XLS programs (be sure that u have Security level set to Medium in Excel) otherwise the macros wont work. Check the main worksheet - its self-explanatory. Good luck!
To solve one time import only, we need listed add input line on the speadsheet.
Most situation, we fail on the additional lines due to the range of import on shhet is not specified or revised.
e.g. if we export for 10 lines as template, then we change those value and add 10 more lines. Only first 10 lines are import successfully and the new 10 is ignored. It is due to the specified range still lock to the original records.
Ok,I think you misunderstood, I told to insert as many similar lines in X-L using macros and u can add the additional recourses automatically in a single import.
Yes, I accept that the step mentioned by importing two or three times will also help. Which ever easier and most familiar we can use.
Yes, you right. One row for one resource only on spreadsheet.
My practice is each import by Excel is only for one resource. After import, then in Excel find and replace the resource from A to B, save and for another import.
I prefer this methodology for easy control. Each time only one resource import, if any go wrong, easy to trace.
Thnx gentlemen for your advice,I tried export/import function also.
But incase of Mutliple resources in one activity. It is still a cumbersome method. Comma sintex does nt work...i have to create separate row with different resouce for allocation..E.g if i have to allocate resource A & B to activity 1 then just by putting A,B in resource Id column, it doesnt work.It can be done only by creating a separate row for activty id 1 and then allocating both resources separetly in two cells accordingly.
In that case i think global change is still faster method.
Please comment if i am wrong in export / import method or if there is anyother way.

How is CCS?
I have saw it 3 years ago, and it was not so much user friendly, but was very easy to aggregate resoruce at different level as in Artemeis.

Sample Excel with RA is available on P3 CD under folder RA\sample\Excel.. There are several X-L files, each for different purpose.
However, I want a RA in Access2k, CD’s one is Access97 only, who help me?

By the way I switched over to CCS for this same reason of allocating the resources to activities.
Thanks in Advance

If You sent me Your email I will send You an excel application, using RA engine, that will semplify the
resource allocation, as is build up an activity/resource matrix.
And the import export functions are just done clicking on a bottom comand.

Hello Guys,
if your familiar with any dbase prog i. e MS Access this is more efficient by using standard template , then import / export option. thanks

hi Anil.
I am applying the following way :
repeat the activity ID and assign different resources as much as you repeat the ID of the activity in Excel sheet.
ex.
ID Resource
z100h Plumber
z100h welder
z100h helper
and so on for any number of resources
this is similar to import 3 times.but if you repeat the activiy 3 times you will import 1 time

I dont use macro, just find and replace, i.e find resource A and replace all by resource B.
Number of key strokes are open X-L, Ctl-H, enter resource A, tab, enter resource B, Ctl-A, save X-L, close X-L.
The X-L is ready for import.

Dear,
But if you use macros in X-L, I feel you can do within one time import. I used it to add several resources in less time.
Any other suggestion we will discuss.

Use import method is faster than Global change. To prepare the Excel template by export the required field out for data input.

Dear.,
Did u tried to use export/import function through X-L. It is the fastest way to add resources for many activities.
