Program is written in Visual Basic and uses the ODBC drivers to read the P3 database can calculate the percentage on each activity that is a WBS activity type based on the option set in Tool, Summarization.
The percentage on the activity with a WBS activity type will then match the percentage calculated in the summarised band when grouped by WBS.

P3 3.1 has an option to summarize percentage complete weighted by Duration, Resource Units or Cost. The WBS activity type always uses duration as per the Primavera help file.
However we have written an program that uses the P3 option setting to determine how to calculate the summarise percentage on the WBS activity types and update every WBS activity type in the schedule. The WBS activity type percentage will then match the percentage in the summarised band when grouped by WBS. Installs as a tool like Project Check-in/Check-out in the Tools menu.
Used by Defence contractors as they MUST use WBS activity types for their CSSR /CSCS interfaces from P3 3.1

What you are trying to say that we have to convert the % complete of of all different items into the manhours earned and adding up the earned manhours will give us the % complete for the Hammock.
This is how we do and the progress of P3 to keep the schedule as realistic as possible. Although it is double work.

Physical Progress cannot be rolled up. Just to illustrate - how can you add or roll up 25% of drawings and 50% excavation physically? It is not possible physically. However if you have cost loaded both the activities, you can then roll up the earned value cost of any odd types of activities together and calculate % complete for your hammock or roll up. In P3e an above you can do it however in P3 3.1, since there is only one type of % complete, you will have to do this calculation out of P3 (in spreadsheet for example).
Yes, I meant to say WBS. I was writing the posts without even checking it in software. And activiity type WBS is available in both P3 3.1 and P5. In a number of situations in the project, work is broken down to details but it is not practical to load resources at those micro levels of activities. WBS type of activities then come handy at that moment - you can assign resource to WBS activity only (which is hammock or summary of a group of activities). When you progress the individual activities, the WBS activity gets progressed automatically and you can get earned value and other calculations at that level easily. You cannot do this in ordinary hammock activity which is merely a time from start of an activity to finish of another activity.
Also the difference between WBS and Hammock is that, WBS activity can be assigned to group of activities having common WBS level. Wherein, hammocks can be assigned to any group of activities.
But, typically both share the same purpose giving start and finish dates for the assigned group of activities

There is no WBS hammock but WBS is act like hammock. I think what he mean is WBS as WBS summary in P3e or P5. If you assign activity as WBS, you dont need to link your activity where hammock required to define the link SS to first activity and FF to last activity same as level of effort in P3e/P5. When activities are assign as hammock or WBS, the progress was updated automatically when you update the activities under the hammock or WBS.

Check the Activity type - you will find different options including milestones, tasks, hammock and WBS hammock. All you need to do is create an activity with activty type WBS hammock. Then this activity will roll up all the activities which are assigned the same WBS.

You can roll up a series of activities as WBS hammock. You dont need to make any link to WBS hammock (unlike hammock activity where you need to give SS and FF link).
When you update your individual activities with progress, the WBS hammock activity gets updated automatically. It is this way not the other way.

Yes, thats exactly what I mean. You need to do this double work if you are working in P3 3.1. P5 can do it automatically.
