the only disadvantage using WBS is you cannot change the grouping order easly, WBS is great tool for a fix (Pretty Much) grouping. But because when we do schedule the environment changes, that make it very difficult to use. See posting in related to reassign WBS... you will see how many people having difficulties in P3 in WBS
I have never used WBS before. never have had to. I seem to learn what I have to with P3.
I doubt that there is any problem with doing it the way you describe. That sounds like it would do the same thing. But it doesnt answer what I asked.
First I am required by the owner to hammock the subs tasks. His problem is that I include their hammock in ours since we are the GC and are responcible for what they do as well.
He has a problem with a hammock in a hammock. I dont see a problem, But I may be wrong. He cant tell me why, just says that it is bad logic. I say it is just logic you have not seem before.
Good New Logic.
Thanks

Think about this... if you are not using the WBS coding structure for anything, then set up a WBS code for each sub... ELEC for all the electrical subs work..HVAC and so on. Code each activity in the WBS code area.
Then generate an activity, with type WBS summary activity... with its WBS the same as your WBS code. Set one WBS type activity up for each, code it so that it appears at the top of your schedule... then when you calculate, it will show the start and finish showing the earliest in that code and finishing on the latest of that code... The WBS becomes a hammock...
Lets see, what you have is a two level hammocks, summary of an summary. I do recall you can have a two tier hammocks. Will confirm @ home with my P3 3.1
Once again I forgot that there is any other programs other than P3. This is what we are required to use. So my hammocks are being used in P3. Hope that helps out.
