Finaly, I have got a better answer from Asta Technical Dpt:
Mdb file format is better used by PP8 enterprise to store several project schedules in the same location; it is advised not to open these files with MS Access, files could be severely damaged.
You could open the mdb in MSAccess, but it is very dangerous to change something inside because you could destroy your project. Anyhow, if you like to try it, open the table "task" in Access. Here you have all tasks from your project. But again, be carefull changing something....

I hope it will help you to inform your boss.

Carlo,
as I said in my 1st post, I have already asked asta people this question, they do not answer anything else that "to store the project data".

Carlo,
the ms access mdb file generated by PowerProject has a very proprietary format.
it is only possible to read and edit the data with PP8, nor MS Access or MSProject are able to do that.
I had asked the question to AstaDev, trying to know what it is made for, with no success.

Alexandre
