There are many planning tools/software available: eg. Primavera, MSP (no offence to any other software users). Each type has its advantages.....as will be noted in the many discussion threads in this forum.
Can you please expand on what your planning needs are; what skills are available to construct/administer a programme, how big your projects are likely to be, and what type of project ie. Design, Manufacturing, Maintenance Scheduling, Outages; do you want a very basic bar-chart or do you want to resource and cost-load the programme?
