Zureen,

Use the online help of the software, you will find comprehensive explanation of the task type and effort driven.

Display the Task Entry view (View, more views ...) to have a Gantt chart and a Task form together.

All the best,

The best advice I can give you:

Set up a new task and start changing its type and assigning resources, and I would suggest to go to task usage form instead of gannt, it is on the left side of the screen

Thank u too Alexandre...

then i know...

effort driven?-if i change task type to fixed duration+click an arrow in effort driven box

oohh Farid..Thank you..

I just tried it and it works!!!

Previous, i just rid off arrow inside the effort driven without looking at task type!! sorry..and thank u so much.

What different if

a) task type = Fix Duration and put

arrow inside effort driven box

b) task type = Fix Duration and take off

that arrow

and What is defination for fixed unit and work?

Zureen,

make sure you change the task type to fixed duration, then click OK BEFORE you assign additional resources;

MS Project does not compute anything until the OK button has been pushed down;

in other words, if I change the task type from fixed units to fixed duration, then add a 2nd resource, then push OK, MS Project will calculate a fixed units task

Are you sure you changed TYPE of the task to fixed duration?

Double click on the task, go to advanced and then to task type.

It is unlikely that this happens because of software

Thank Alexandre and Farid..

Apprecited yer opinion/lesson...

but that’s the problem coz i used that effort driven box and it still gave impact to my duration.

Maybe Farid right..it might cause from software problem...

mm..so now..need IT people to give their opinion.is there any possible software can create this problem?

Zureen and Farid sbah el kheir,

Set up the task type as fixed duration will refrain MS P to recalculate the task duration when you add new resources; if you also want that additional resources do not share the amount of work being assigned to the 1st resource working on the task, check out the effort driven box.

Al the best,

Make tasks fixed duration regadless of being effort driven or not.

If your software is OK, the duration should not change
