FOR A COUPLE OF YARS I HAVE BEEN WARNING ABOUT P3e

IT IS STILL A DISASTER AFTER YEARS OF FREQUENT UPGRADES, OR SHALL I SAY DOWNGRADES.

THE INDUSTRY SHOULD SERIOULY CONSIDER LOOKING ELSEWERE FOR A BETTER STANDARD

Amar:

Create a new database on P5.0 instead of upgrade v4.1 database into 5.0 directly. This allow your fall back if the new software not function well.

Christian:

Thanks your advise. my experience let me know no matter what software are, I’ll run parallel (both old and new version) at the same time.

Further, I prove P3 cannot remove even P5.0 is bug free.

Hi mktse

I’ve been in one of the webinars of Primavera v 5.0 and to tell you frankly its good to here what is really being improved in the new version but I’m not that totally convinced unless I’ve used it myself or have heard from other planners who have actually used its application in their industry... I just want to know, based on what others have seen in the new version, the pros and cons of it..

Cheers!

I always understood the Primavera R’n’D policy to be to issue the software, wait for the phone calls asking for support and log the problems. Therefore cheaply discovering where they had bugs:-(

It’s just us suckers that suffer in the mean time.

Primavera has run 4 webinars last months. Those presentations are avilable on Primavera website.

Presentations include: -

- Difference between P3e/c 4.1 and P5.0;

- Difference between P3 and P5.0;

- New features; etc

What would be the difference between ver. 4.1 & 5.0?

Any thought planners/users?

If memory serves me correct, P3 always did calculate the total float of completed activites, but the value was masked from view.

Hi Rajeev,

I can not believe this. This can’t be true when you said:

"Now I find that completed activities shows total float."

Giving it the benefit of the doubt, maybe it has a use. It could be used in the so called as-built critical path. The next question is, how do P3 5.0 calculate ABCP?

Cheers,

I installed ver 5.0 and came across 3 new bugs within last 2 weeks which clearly shows they did not test the product.

The Program could not schedule because the default directory (logs) was not created during installation. I had to create it manually.

The same for claim digger, I had to manually create the folder as I had error message that the folder does not exist.

Now I find that completed activities shows total float. All these are new bugs and I wonder how they did testing without scheduling and reviewing the float calculation. I hope they understand that they are selling a Project Management software

V5 also supports MSDE, as an alternative to Interbase. MSDE is a cut-down version of MS SQL for implementations of 1 - 5 users, including standalone installations.

Version 5 does not support Interbase data servers. If you were using Interbase, then the program will automatically convert your system over to MSSQL. Not a real problem, just scary and time-consuming. Good luck!
