It’s pretty obvious from your remarks that you’ve had a negative experience with some company styling themselves as quality assurance professionals and maybe the ISO as well.



While I wouldn’t presume to disagree with you, the company I work for uses both quality control and quality assurance systems. With quality assurance we don’t use outside services or consultants, all personnel have considerable experience within the company and have been given the necessay training. They are then mentored by an experienced member of the quality assurance team until they have the experience and knowledge base to operate independently.



There are standards which have to be met, of course, and these are constantly reviewed in the light of changing conditions. Project Managers and Project Teams within the company have seen that the system we use works, to the extent that they now actively seek quality assurance reviews. They know from experience that the system will help them run their projects more effectively.



Please don’t let an unfortunate experience with quality assurance turn you against it. When it is worked properly, quality assurance can make the organisation more efficient and effective. It can be used to supply feedback to both the local, national and international standards organisations. You have some extremely clear ideas about quality assurance, why don’t you feed them back into your local or national standards institute? It could make a difference for both your organisation and others.
