Employed by Network Rail as project planner for the Major Projects & Investment Telecomms Renewals Team overseeing the planning requirements for Telephone Concentrator installations, Radio and CCTV systems, Fixed Telecom Network (FTN) route-works and cables, GSM-R base and cable installation, station clocks and passenger information displays, and installation of voice recorders in signal boxes across the North East: 40-45 projects totalling £46m to monitor and progress.

Although a mainly telecom based portfolio, it also included a large amount of civils works with contractors such as First Engineering and Kent PHK, and some electrical works with C Spencer Ltd. Projects have included Peterborough Concentrator and FTN (£17m) with Thales Telecom and First Engineering; Concentrator Renewals and FTN (£11m) with Siemens and Kent PHK; CCTV and

Telecomms Renewals (£3m) with Thales and First Engineering; Sheffield Sheaf House Strowger telephone exchange removal – prior to demolition – as part of the ‘Sheffield Masterplan’. In 2005 I was involved in the Network Rail Information Management Systems Project, migrating projects from P3 to P3e. The S&T, team of which I was part, was the first to successfully migrate over

220 projects within an 11-week timescale. In 2003 I set up a collaborative workspace, ‘Documentum eRoom’, to enable contractors and the Network Rail Telecomms Team to communicate and work together more effectively. This was rolled out across all of our projects and was successfully used as a Proof of Concept for Network Rail collaborative working.
