Responsibilities: Development of planning system for construction and design engineers to improve management and control of many projects totalling around £15 million annual turnover. Identifying areas for improvement in partnership performance and initiating change.

I was a part of the first group of dedicated Project Control Apprentices to undertake the apprenticeship which was created in the north east of England between Siemens PLC Metals UK, AMEC, Aker Kvaerner (Now Jacobs), K Home Engineering and Alpha +. The training was provided on the job and also by NETA (North East Training Agencies), Darlington Technical College and Teesside University.
Responsible for assisting mining clients in preparation and review of capital and operating cost estimates, schedules and other project controls tasks.
Senior Planner Birse Construction - Tender & Contract Planning on various contracts ranging from £500K bridge refurbishments to £25m sewerage treatment works. Worked on many successful tenders, which were converted, into successful contracts. Involved in developing ‘Planning Standards’, which set out the minimum planning standards to be employed on contracts. Gave presentations to Clients on bids utilising PowerPoint. Involved in Claims. Became acquainted with Water industry conditions of contract and also used the NEC Conditions of Contract on several contracts.
Estimating, costing & tendering for diffrent type of projects, projects billing and variation order for projects.
Responsible for all planning, cost control, bid pricing (in consultation with Operations Manager), QA, commercial transactions and reporting and project performance reporting within the Odebrecht Oil & Gas - Aberdeen operations. Develop the local standard procedures and work instruction for insertion into the Aberdeen Operations quality plan. Where appropriate assist in the development of project specific procedures. Take lead role in annual QA external audits for the ISO 9000 quality assurance accreditation.
Establish the Phese 2 schedule and maintain progress. Establish the schedule for full project execution at Level 2 and the detailed Phase 2 / Phase 3 ‘Gate’ schedule, to allow funding to be established for Phase 3 of the Project. Was promoted to Project Controls Supervisor and was respsponsible for recruiting my back-to-back replacement, 2 Cost Control Supervisors and for establishing an integrated Cost / Scheduling and Estimating Work/Cost Breakdown structure to take the Project through full execution.
