David's first employment as a planning engineer was as part of his industrial placement in 1977 then subsequently he began his career  proper as a planning engineer in 1978 with Sindall Construction both head-office based pre-tender and contract planning for a number of projects and site-based leading planning teams on major hospital projects.

Thameslink project – working to deliver additional capacity on Key routes within the south east specifically planning platform extensions at more than 20 stations between central London and Bedford.

Head-office based/site visiting pre-tender and contract planning responsible for the planning function for the main and a number of subsidary companies.

Greater Manchester Public Travel Executive (GMPTE) March 2008 to December 2008 (Planning software P6)

Working on the planned congestion charging for the wider Manchester area and proposed transport upgrades (Planning software P6)

Provide planning support to the 7 project managers covering 22 small to medium size programmes.

Provide all reports and any corrective actions to maintain key programme dates.

Review of contractor’s programmes from tender/contract award to period submissions and review

Head-office based pre-tender and contract planning for a number of projects and site-based leading planning teams on major  residential projects.

As a result the fall of the residential market in the late 1980’s David returned to head office and, in addition to his previous duties he also carried out delay analysis on completed projects, ultimately leading to his first appointment as an expert witness in 1989 where he used innovative network techniques to analyse the delays.

Birse Metro Step Free Access (Bank of four) London Underground December 2008 to June 2009 (Planning software P6)

Working to provide Step Free Access to four London Underground sites (Greenford, West Kensington, Newbury Park, Amersham) (Planning software P6)

Initially working on two programmes covering installation of Lifts stairs and bridge at Amersham & Newbury Park

David joined Kyle Stewart (subsequently HBG Construction and now BAM Construct) as Deputy Chief Planner in a department of 12 planners.
