This is a family-owned business founded by my late father involved in real estate work, i.e., development and sales of small/medium-sized subdivisions. I assisted in the management of the business from 1990 to 1998 (it closed shop at the height of the Asian Financial Crisis).

After I finished my Basic Quantity Surveying Course, I started handling the succeeding classes/batches of said basic course in parallel with continuation of my studies in the higher quantity surveying courses. In these QS courses, we studied the basics of contracting and quantity surveying, FIDIC, ICE, JCT, NEC and local contracts utilized in the Philippines such as CIAP, UAP and DPWH.

Reporting to both the Project Director and Project Manager, my functions include preparation of cost estimates; project budget, schedule & cost control; bill of materials/quantity take-off; cost analysis; procurement; project status monitoring; progress billings; variation orders/change orders; evaluation of subcontractors’ proposals and billings; value engineering; contract administration and documentation.

Reporting directly to the VP for Operations, I lead a group of Quantity Surveyors of various disciplines (Civil Engineer, Architect, Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer and Technical Secretary) in the contract management of the project.

Reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager, my functions include contract administration, interpretation and documentation; technical coordination/contractual communications with Clients, Consultants and Contractors; preparation of miscellaneous tender documents/bill of materials/quantity take-off; cost analysis; procurement; project status monitoring; valuation of works; variation orders/change orders initiation; formulation/development and implementation of project rules, policies and miscellaneous Contract Conditions; commercial & close-out management in relation to contractual

I am head of a local group of Quantity Surveyors and document controllers forming the Contracts & Procurement Department of the South Luzon Expressway Project, a flagship project of the Republic of the Philippines as it is the major gateway to the Calabarzon industrial zone which is the primary center of commerce in the country.

As Senior Member of a team of Independent Consultants/Engineers working for prestigious Clients (the Department of Public Works & Highways, Department of Transportation & Communications, Toll Regulatory Board, and San Miguel Group of Companies among others) I am tasked to research, study and prepare cost/quantity estimates (BOQ), specifications, bid documents, conditions of contract and other contract documents in preparation for the tender and eventual construction of various priority projects of the Philippine Government and large private institutions.
