Inspection for assessment of Kingsland Road Bridge, a steel truss bridge in Shoreditch. The bridge soffit was inspected during night-time road closures from a mobile elevated working platform.

I was a Team Member for the Inspection for assessment of Brunel’s famous Royal Albert Bridge at Saltash, developing and reporting condition factors. The inspection included an extensive photographic survey of the structure.

Photographic site survey and production of construction sequence from site clearance to finished construction, minimising land-take and taking account of buildability, health & safety and the environment. Undertaken in 3d sketch package SketchUp, the model allowed simple clear presentation of stages, a fly-through and quick take off of quantities for feasibility cost estimates.

Team Member for the production of Rail Corridor Plans for the Great Western, Great Northern & Thameslink rail corridors. These plans assessed constraints and issues on the line and demand characteristics along the corridors combining them to produce schemes to ensure present and future demand/ needs are met.

I gathered and analysed M11 bridge Inspection and Assessment reports from two Maintenance Area Contractors (MAC)s leading to production of an Existing Structures Report. I arranged access to the Highways Agency SMIS database. I investigated the appointment of a laser scanning survey specialist to undertake survey of structures with critical tolerances.

One of the engineering wonders of the £5.2bn project CTRL was completed in 2003, the Thurrock Viaduct, the link between the Thames tunnel and Rainham Marshes. Thurrock Viaduct is one of the most spectacular achievements of the CTRL, a new viaduct crossing over the existing railway lines, over the Dartford Tunnel exit ramps and underneath the Queen Elizabeth the 2nd Bridge. This 1 km long viaduct was constructed over a year.

CTRL Section 2's route passes underneath London Underground's Barking Station. I was a Team Member for a night-time track side inspection of underside of the station (a listed building) informing a structural assessment, leading to a settle mitigation design.

At Waterloo, Network Rail (NR) planned to incorporate redundant International Terminal platforms into the adjacent domestic station. The first phase converted a single platform (20) to accommodate domestic train services and provided access to it.

NR’s objective was to operate services from this platform by December 2008, keeping within the development budget set for them by the Department for Transport (DfT).
