TILOS (ASTA Co.) vs LINEARPLUS (PCF Co.)

10 Biggest European Company Use TILOS. This is not only print out. Full Project Control Management System. TILOS7 even inculude Ghang Chart and Pert Diagram. It is fully supporting PMI Methodology. CPM, EVM, is out of box. Product simple use for Planning, CPM, Estimation of Work, Estimation of Resources, Claim Analyst, Progress Monitoring, Budget and Income Management, Baseline and Change Management. The biggest PLUS is it is doing on TIme and Distance which no other standart PPM solution make it.

One also big advantage is integrated with ASTA, Primavera and Microsoft both way.

I am yet to find any software that really compares with Tilos in terms of functionality. However with Tilos I do recommend that you invest in some training if you can. It is worth it.

Praphulla Chaudhari is right in that Vico Control 2008 may not be the best choice for road, pipeline and flyover projects. Indeed Vico Control (formerly Graphisoft Control) is specialised in building projects. The road, pipeline and flyover counterpart (formerly Dynaproject) still exists as DynaRoad (www.dynaroad.fi).

Other time-chainage software include Time Chainage, Steven Woods software, Planisfer, TimeChg2000, QEI Exec, Tilos, Time Location Plus, etc.

yes. i know Vico Software since 2004 (previous name Graphisoft, Dyna Project etc). we are planning to use it in coming projects. As in India if only one consultant out of 12 to 13 other specialised consutlants is using VICO it does not serve our purpose. even people are very reluctant to work on Vico/REVIT. everybody should be on the same platform then only it will work very well. And ofcourse VICO is THE BEST software package for building projects.

What about Vico software? Did anybody use it?

Thanks for your interest in "TimeChainage".

The software can cope with 100,000 planned activities if needed, so large complex projects can be easily accommodated. One of the benefits of the time chainage format is that a large number of tasks can be shown on a single sheet of paper and still be very readable.

Different chainage zones are dealt with by using a concept of local and global chainages, and these are related to the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). I would like to put a word in for "TimeChainge". This software is similar to bar chart planning packages except that it produces time chainage charts. It can be used for planning, tracking progress and produces great looking time chainage charts. It imports from and to Excel, so increases its flexibility.

Thanks for your post. We employ a US attourney (claims analyst) in Vico who loves this too. We must be doing something right.



The software was always technically very powerful but the user interface was not nearly so much fun as you described. There has been a renewed focus on this user interface to allow you to simple pick up a pen (yes a pen instead of a cursor) and begin to draw you task like you would in your notebook. You can then rename the task, set the duration, add resources, dependencies and risk as you wish. You can copy and paste in pretty much all views and the reports are tabular to allow simple copy and paste to Excel and from their to your preferred company reporting system(s).



All of this can be done without touching the BoQ.



The BoQ is still there and we’re proud of it! It is this ability to access quantity data that makes us unique. By using quantites (entered either manually, imported from a sub contractors excel sheet or imported from a BIM model) the duration of a task can be calculated from the resources and planned productivity data.



I like to say we work with "Derived not Contrived" durations.



This introduction of derived duration in a location makes your schedule more accurate, more honest and hence contains fewer surpises.



You can of course work with a combination of tasks, some with, some without quantities. It is flexible and up to you the user.



In short, the speed to set up a new schedule is now much quicker and more friendly, whilst retaining the power it always had. Give it a try.

I have the old flowline software but I have never used it in a live project.



The problem I had was that the resource data had to be extracted from a "BOQ" format which did not match my preferred method of "Resource Hours".



Once in place the software was brilliant with automatic resource levelling and visual impact of delays.



The other reason that I did not continue was that they could not allow copy paste data from spreadsheets.



If they have solved this problem the I may go back for another try.



The brilliant thing about it was that you could get 3000 level 4 tasks on - say 25 level 3 bars - 10 level 2 bars on ONE A3 landscape sheet.



So simple taht even a judge could understand it.



If they have simplified the data entry then let me know.

"Vico Software Control (Flowline/Line of Balance/LoB)"

Its Control 2008 by VICO Software (Old names- Graphisoft control, Dynaproject etc.) its capable of 5D management but its good for building projects to manage in 5 Dimensions. Road,pipeline, flyover projects can be better handled by TILOS.

There is another - much better - time chain software from Graphisoft Flowline.



Very expensive but capable of 4D linkage.

i had tried both for Mumbai Metro Rail Project. I Found TILOS is better option with lot of features to manage the project.

Taking a look at the results (grafical output) of TILOS will impress you, especially if you consider how easy it is to get there.
