I assume you mean the module SAP PS. PS stands for Poject System. It originally was written to control investments and the cash flow for projects. The algorithm for scheduling and the other planning functions cannot be compared with Primavera, Powerproject, OPX and others. In addition if you’ll present the SAP user interface to a Planner or a scheduler, mostly they will refuse to work with it - SAP sales reps proably will say different; so have detailed look. So for each activity there is a parameter available - "dsex", if I remember right - where you can indicate "externally scheduled" and SAP’s scheduling algorithm won’t touch it. Equivalent for the network part of PM ("Plant Management"). Both modules are designed for cooperation with PM software. In Germany many companies use Primavera and SAP PS and/or SAP PM connected by interfaces.
The size of your projects and your requirements for reporting do exceed the capabilities of MSP for my opinion.
Luck luck with your decision!

For me, theres no point of comparison between Primavera and SAP. SAP is for total business processes such as administration, budgeting, accounting, purchasing, management, etc. while Primavera is purely for Project Management that includes planning, scheduling, control and monitoring.
In a way, primavera, msproject and other kind of schedules is useful in some aspect of SAP process, but vice versa, SAP is of no use or has no space in primavera program nor in other scheduling software, I guess. May I then advice you to utilize primavera, msproject and other project management program in your planning tasks, and concurrently utilize SAP for your other business process specially in material procurement. I guess, that is the collaborative process in huge corporate entities.
