Further to what Devamalya has added, please note that both ERP/SAP are designed to improve high end organization goals like improved communication and increased return on information, which is done processing of data from departments.

Career will not go beyond certain limit, if you just stuck in construction industry. SAP and ERP are useful for develoing career if you are either in development team or in domain specialist team.

Most of the planning Engineers are using SAP / ERP just for data entering and this is what it is designed for? (I have personally worked on both and was key user for SAP)

Other modules which are in SAP are Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Supply Chain Management (SCM), Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Exchange Infrastructure (XI), Enterprise Portal (EP) and SAP Knowledge Warehouse (KW).

Hope this is clear.

Cheers,

SAP has several modules like PS (Project Systems), MM (Materials Management), BI (Business Intelligence)whcih can be customized to Construction industry. The first one is direclty concerned with WBS, Activities and Milestones creation and subsequent tracking & monitoring. MM is concerned with Purchase and Contracts. BI is related to generation of reports - standard and customized. I have worked on both PS and MM and currently wokring on BI too. Unless you get to really work on the above-mentioned different modules, furthering career interest by simply doing a course shall not help you much.
