Yes you can use Expense field if you wanted to avoid units but it can be use as linear distribution only or start and end of the task. Also please note that you can not produce late resource profile if you use Expense.

Thanks Rodel. That does help although this does create new problems.I was hoping to ignore units as this could cause rounding errors. So how could I avoid this? Use expense?
In this case I need to resource schedule so I presume I cannot avoid units.

Check your resource price/unit. If you have 0 value against these field then your cost will be automatically change to zero once you recalculate assignment costs and or checked the status date.
