As David mentions, "Progress Spotlight" functionality will be available in forthcoming version 5. However, most of the functionality to status activities automatically as if they are progressing as planned is available in your current version.
Take a look at the feature "Apply Actuals." For activities, you wish to have actuals (starts, finishes, units & costs) automatically applied, you need to check autocompute actuals for each activity and also for each resource.
