P6 Database is Open Database. You can use any open database connectivity(ODBC) software to communicate with P6 Database. You can use any language like Visual Basic, Oracle, SQL, Foxpro, Borland C++, C Language, Dbase, MS Access, Excel, etc…
The most popular that commonly used are VB, MS Access, Excel, SQL and Oracle. P6 is using SQL Database server or Oracle server depends which one is selected during installation.
P4 to P5 are using Interbase Database while P3 is using Btrieve database and can use VB language and ODBC connectivity.
P3 & P5 to P6 release SDK using VB language in programming and have there sample SDK utilities on Primavera CD using MS Access and Excel. For P6 you can find under SDK folder Activity6.xls & Directory6.xls and for P3 under Util folder you can find MS Access SDK sample program, Activity.xls, Project.xls, Spread.xls, etc…
Below link is the Programmer’s Guide using SDK, General Tables & Fields for P6.
