I found no way of doing this with Global Changes or Custom Resource Fields. Unless someone provides you with a somewhat automated procedure I believe you will end up doing it manually.
If you got to use a manual procedure then let it be orderly and in a way you can go back to your original resources definitions. To this purpose I would suggest the following approach.
For each resource you got to split, define a similar named resource with the prefix p for permanent and another resource definition with the prefix c for contract resources.
You will have to substitute the resource for each case you are using these resources until no resource is used under your original single definition for both, only then you can delete the old resource definition.
I found the use of prefix useful when in need to create resource groups for my Resource Profile/Table views.
Remember always to backup your job before any major changes are performed.

Click View
Click Resource Table
Click Display on Dialog Box
then Select the following options;
Display Type = units
Time Interval = Months
Table Calculate = Total
and select other options as needed.
