Unfortunately no. With P6 Activity ID is up to 20 characters.

Is there any way you can going into the software and change the maximum character length from 10 to say 20?

In addition to Mr. Jerry’s Post, try the following Steps on how to Combined or Merged Project:



1. Prior to combine or merged project you must first create New Blank Project as your Host project.

2. After Creating the Host Project, make sure that the Planning Unit for all merged project must be the same as the planning unit for the New Blank Project you created.

3. To combined / Merged Project they must be in the same folder. Then,

4. Choose Tools, Project Utilities, Merge.

5. Click Browse and select the location of the projects you wanted to merge. All projects must be in the same location.

6. Select the new created blank project as your host project.

7. In the Projects list box, select a source project.

8. Click Merge.

9. Open the merge project and copy the WBS & Activity Code (If there is)

10. To copy the WBS or Activity Code, Data -> Activity Codes or WBS, tick Transfer and click OK.

11. Select the Existing Project that you had combined and tick Transfer & CLOSE.

12. Do the same thing in Calendar, Cost Account & CDI.

13. Then, try to link actvities in order to correct the logic and Completion Date of your Project.

14. Run Schedule Project.

When merging two or more projects, you can use the the MERGE command in the TOOLS, PROJECT UTILITIES menu.



You can choose a host project from among them, or... as has been suggested already, you can create a new blank project, (with activity codes) and make this as your host project.



..."IT’S NOT WORKING"....??



Yes,..the command will not execute if the resulting total number of characters (existing + the added character string)on the Activity ID exceeds 10.

You need to have a coding structure that match in order to merge two project together

a) create a new project, let it empty; ot will be the group

b) open Project Overview for the existing project, then enter the name of the group in the Add th is new project to a project group field
