In the UNIFORMAT guideline what type of contract is assumed?

The UNIFORMAT guidance says that ’design development ends with approval by the owner of the plans, projected cost, and schedule’

This seem strange as i have always worked on projects that agree the costs/schedule in the feasibility stage, prioir to any design development.

Does UNIFORMAT assume a ’General Contracting’ contract type, where the design is done by someone other than the designers?

There is also no WBS, only ativity code.

To enable you to become versatile planning engineer, you should always go first to WBS, Work Breakdown Structure. The approach is always to work out first the WBS since WBS will give you a logical way of decomposition/decomposing the overall scope of work.

The activity codes is also very important (IT GIVE YOU FLEXIBILITY) because it will group related activities that the WBS find hard to do considering that the WBS is very rigid.

A word of advise, never use Activity Code as WBS. Activity Code and WBS have their own purposes. And, they are complementary and supplementary.

Hi Hany,

it is cute, resource loaded, cost loaded

no quantities to check productivity rate for resource assignment

Start date: 15 Nov 06

Finish date: 15 Jan 08

Data Date: 15 Nov 06

However revision box: 19 May 07 Rev 00, 02 Jun 07 Rev 01

If you use start date 15 Nov 06 equal to your data date 15 Nov 06, then this is for 1st baseline submiision for approval.

But there is already a lot of updates and revision, so this particular schedule is a revision of the baseline program

In this case, the data date should be the latest revision date 02 Jun 07 and....

It should capture the actuals progress to date. In this way, the revise program will give a true picture of where the project now and where it will be heading.

The first question is??? will it attain the finish date on 15 Jan 08????

A quick input on Uniformat II & Masterformat

Masterformat tells you WHAT is involved in a construction project while Uniformat tells you WHERE it is involved.

For example

021-Slab on Grade (Unfiformat II classification tells you that it is belong to Substructure. Now if you go to Masterformat it tells you that it should carry the following elements (activities) to complete.

03 30 00 Cast-in-Place Concrete

includes aggregate, cement, and additives.

May Include

concrete forming, accessories, and reinforcing.

granular subbase and vapor retarders for concrete slabs-ongrade

Hi Ahmet

Sorry to jump on the waggon. Up to now I heard of Uniformat II, but I never got a real explanation.

Do you have any reference?

Thank you very much
