Hi Edd,

If u r very much conversant with P3, yes then off course u can resource load the program, give appropriate weightage and then check the monthly % progress.

As Divya is new to the entire system, to start with it would advisable for him to calculate the % progress in terms of OD as suggested. Later on, he can resource load it and can get closer to the factual basis.

Hi Karim,

I totally agree with you. When i was a site planner, i need data from our qs so that our project manager knows the cost requirement every month. That is the only way, a tedious but prudent measure for the good of the project. When i became a tender planner, i also use your method because first, it is a typically a 5 min work and lastly, it is only a bid project.

Yes Ed but to load every activity in the sch. with cost u need to have accurate estimates (ie. get detailed quantities from the QS).

This is not avaliable every time.

Usually we use this "Activity days" method for weightage purpose only.

Hi all,

Karim, I think schedule progress is good for estimation purpose only but if it is use for actual work i think you should cost load it with major resources. That way, it is more accurate in a long run.

BQ: Budgeted Quantity

OD: Original Duration

After assigning the "R" resource to all activities, do the following:

Access the global change through Tools -> Global Change

1- Click on "Add", name it..

2- In the "Change" tab, In the "Then" statement type, under Data item right click and select "BQ".

3- In the "Then" statement type, under Criteria right click and select "EQ".

4- In the "Then" statement type, under Data Item/Value right click and select "OD".

5- In the "Selection" tab, under "Select if" right click and select "Resource", under "Is" right click and select "EQ", under "Low Value" right click and select "R".

I am afraid I am not. I am new to all this so dnt know the meanings of BQ=OD

If ur program is not resource loaded, then you can use duration as resource and then can find the monthly progress.

Assign a resource = R to all activities and then thro global change assign BQ=OD

Go to Tabular reports and get ur monthly figures.

Hope I am clear.

Hi Divya,

U have to use the same method which u’ll be using to get your actual progress % (ie. compare apple to apple).

For example: manhours, cost, activity days, etc..

U measure ur planned figures using ur target sch.
