Activity codes and activity descriptions

Multi-tasking computers (receiving faxes, downloading email, performing background virus checks, working on other processes) being interrupted during crucial write processes, power interruptions during write processes, muilti-users accessing the same data at the same time, multi-users writing to the same record at the same time, hardware aging (power supplies & filters glitching, the surface of your harddisk wearing and thinning, other circuit boards faulting, etc) can all contribute to corrupted data files.

This problem is especially acute for companies running P3 on networks with many simultaneous users. Btrieve was never intended to control more than a handful of users at the same time. This was a major driver for big companies to switch away from Btrieve (P3) and go over to the dark side (P5) which uses a much more sophisticated multi-tasking database server/manager platform.

Thanks Ronald. Pardon my curiosity, what could possibly corrupt my schedule data files? Cheers

There is also the possibility of your schedule data files being corrupt. Try running the Primavera file correction utility C:\P3Win\P3PROGS\PFXW.EXE on your schedule to see if that is the problem. The help button in the program will tell you how to run it. Good luck!

hello,

Be sure to back up/copy before and after updating progress especially if you are using import/export process. There’s always human and technical errors.

Jaya,

I keep track of all changes. In this case, i did not make any change in the activity dictionary. I only updated activity progress by using the Excel-P3 import facility; and the only thing i had in the improt file was activity id, %progress, actual start, actual finish. This is a bit strange..

rite....am also faced the same problem and my case was worst, it was nealy 2000 activities...all of sudden all codes were vanished...

may be this, due to the changes u might have made in the code directory, and once if u click yes to the Save changes made in the structure..then this will happen.

Thanks Ashraf. In this case, the sub-project is not deleted and the filter/layout was not altered. All the activity codes (for about 10 activities) disappeared, except the activity id. I had to input all the codes/description again.. a bit strange..

Hi Olike,

For disapprearing of activity description check the filter /layout etc.

If the problem persists then may be the sub-project is deleted it happens in case of project group when a sub-project is deleted the activites will automatically disappear from the project group.

Regards,

Ashraf
