you don't really specify a new start date for each activity that what the logic and durations are for. Progress the activities accordingly with actual start and or finish dates and change the remaining duration if the activity is in progress and not complete. Then move the data date and re-schedule the project.
In my p6 software dates are not changing for particular activities according to the relation given. The calender assigned is same for all activities. Please help me with your valuable suggestions to fix this.

this will be the very last question on this subject:
when i apply the Global change (i have made several copies of my Plan so ive got back-up), do i enter the criteria on the Change of the Selection tab? i assume it is the Change tab, when i have runu this i get the error that the activities already exist??
the criteria i enter are as follows:
IF : ACT | CN | SYS (my activity codes i want to change) | - | 20d.
THEN: ACT | CN | ACT
thanks again

You could use a combination of activity codes and global change, if you have a lot of changes, but a well constructed schedule is by far the best option.

,, so would i have to change the constrains on each individual activity or is there a method of group change? obviously alot of the activitis start at later dates in the schedule, i have many activities running in different calendars so if changing the constrains is the best method i woould rather use this,,
thank you very much for your help

Thats because the activities placement in time is dictated by the logic in the schedule. If you need to impose a different start/finish, then use constraints or calendars

, sorry, one more, that works when the scheduled data date is taken forward, what about when the scheduled data date is taken back? the line moves but the activity dates stay where they are?

Which probably means that you dont have any Early Constraints set
Member for

im getting
invalid data item/value
Member for

Needs to be
SNE EQ
Member for

sorry Steven,
im getting an error the reads - Invalid Criteria Code
i have nothing other than SNE in that row now
under that row i have this:
MS EQ ES - 20

yep

Nothing, all it is doing is removing any existing constraints, as in P3 an activity can only be assigned one type of constraint.
Member for

what do i need to enter in the Data Item/Value column on the same row as SNE?
i.e
then SNE EQ ___

If you are trying to overrule the logic of your schedule, you will need to use Mandatory Constraints.
On the change tab of Global change
If Act Cn "SYS"
Then SNE = Removes any existing constraints
MS = ES - 20
Then re-schedule
Member for

that is correct
- sorry if im talking in riddles

To try and phrase your question into english, is it
If
Activity ID Contains "SYS"
Then
Constrain the start to 20 days prior to the current early start ?

SNE = es + 10d
for instance
