There is a lot of incorrect information in this set of posts.
The PMP exam is NOT based on the PMBOK® Guide – the PMBOK is one reference. The exam is based on the Project Manager Role Delineation Study. This study was updated and the latest version forms the basis for the current exam (from the 31stAugust).
This is definitely one of the best books out there, PMP Exam Prep: Rapid Learning to Pass PMI's PMP Exam-On Your First Try! ISBN: 9781932735185.
If you are interested in classroom based training, you can find a free practise test with Firebrand Training, I heard that they are one of the best Project Management providers:-PMP exam

A good recommendation made by an instructor is to buy the latest books whenever you decide to take the exam. Do not rely on old books because the questions keep changing.
The most important book to pivot your preparations around is PMBOK Ver 4.0 which is the latest released by PMI.
PM Fast Track by Rita Mulcahy Ver 6.0 was very helpful for me while giving mock tests. Theyve got mock tests for all knowledge areas and contain almost 7000 plus questions which is really worth attempting before giving the final actual exams. Mock tests will help you in optimising the time taken per Q and you could work it out to even 40 secs per Q against the standard of 80 secs.
Make a point to grab the PM knowledge while preparing for exam, rather trying hard for just getting a tag to your name!!!!
All the best in your attempt.

This might be a little late, but I completed the exam without that book. You need to read the PMBOK twice and check what is available (latest version) in the market. Amazon is a great source, check what is available. Because the questions change with time you need the latest information.
Good luck,
Samer

The PMBOK is essential reading but on its own is not enough. For more information see: http://www.mosaicprojects.com.au/Training-News_Old.html#Exam_Change_PMP
