Yes read the drawings and specs. Templates sometimes do have a place but there is the danger that you do not check it against the current scope of work and you may have a programme which includes items that do not apply or not include something that does. Also the quantities may be different. or the logistics or the plant utilisation etc etc.
Best advice is to study and understand the drawings and specs and programme it specifically.

Samples are only available either with your P3 projects softwares or you may get from your friends or your Company previous works give you best idea about your requisite field either buildings, roads etc.
If want sample scheduel in P3, then, you must have P3 install in your computer. This will help you to look at the inner working in the development of sample schedule. If you have P3 installed in your computer then you look at the sample projects. The sample projects and the schedule developed were comprehensive.
Mastery of the sample project and on-the-job application of what you learn in the development of your schedule are the necessary ingredient to learn P3.
This is only my humble opinion. I hope it wil help you learn P3 through samples.

You can download sample templates from Microsoft Office Online.
But don’t forget it is in MSP format and you need at least MSP2000 to open the templates.
