Switching back and forth between 2007 and 2010 is not a good idea. You lose a lot of data going back and forth. Some of the calculations are not the same between levels - for example assignments. You have features and fields added to 2010 that you lose when you save down and don't get back when you convert up. After you do convert a few times the file will become corrupt and unusable. If you have booth versions installed on the same system without them being installed in different directories you will see problems like filters not working, etc. I would uninstall both versions, pick one and install just that verision.
