Guys,

some background reading at flamewars

IMHO, three strikes and you are out - blocked address.

Member for

203.81.198.33 = Worldcall (ISP) / Pakistan

80.76.228.4 = RIPE / Germany

IMO, all four names mentioned above are aliases being used but the same individual. I suggest closing down the 3 newest aliases and leaving the oldest one (Shahzad IIRC) active. Send him a PM and explain the situation.

Can a script be built to alert the admin team about new registrations from those IP addresses? As I mentioned before, allowing free email accounts in the registration process opens the door for this kind of abuse. If registration email accounts were restricted to business & ISP domains, I think it would help tremendously.

Hi there,

Of the IP = ’203.81.198.33’ and ’80.76.228.4’ we have the following...

3552 Shahzad Munawar, Pakistan living in Islamabad - but we can’t be certain from the data.

8180 Sonu Joshap, Australia (ACT), Sydney.

9127 Johi Niraj, UAE, Abu Dabai

The two names above both have the same password, so it is a given that these two are the same person.

7851 Jimmy Robert, Alaska, living in California. Cant work out what is goin on here!!

There is a trickey little script which we use to keep an eye on certain rogue recruiters. We could do something similar to associate a specific user id with a specific computer. It works on the premise that most people login and post to PP using the same PC, or same group of PC’s. We could give it a try and wait to see if anyone is posting as ’someone else’.

Any ideas on what we should do. We could stop these IP’s but it may prevent others from joining us? What do we do?? Perhaps we can also pick up things from the poor English which is being used??

Guys, we have sent a warning about this and it continues. We must act. We should block that address - full stop. Apologise to anyone who it affects, but it is our only recourse !

Looks like a ’smoking gun’ to me. Jimmy Roberts and Shahzad Munawar (and Joshi Niraj) all posting from the same IP 80.76.228.4 which is different from the Pakistani IP that Jimmy/Shahzad used earlier.

Is there anyway to cross reference posts made from 203.81.198.33 with posts made from 80.76.228.4 to catch all of Jimmy/Shahzad’s aliases?

May I suggest we explore what other mature online community moderators have found effective first ? This requires some searching and perhaps contact to some of these mods, but may provide us a tried and tested way forward.

Member for

Yes, you are correct about the IP address issue. Blocking a single address will stop a lot of people (potentially).

We have been discussing the free-email address issue. It sounds like a robust way forward, but how many planners will this "put-off" joining us?

Blocking by IP will block out Shazad as well. I would favor changing the password as done previously to only affect the Jimmy Robert account (in conjunction with requiring non-free e-mail accounts for new registrations - especially for that IP address!).

Suggest we send a message to him that if he breaks the rules again his IP address will be blocked.

Hi there,

We will change the script so that email addresses are verified in some way. Good idea.

We’ll also have a look at the addresses in question.

Yes, the IP address issue only shows the location of the individual (in most cases) but does provide some useful insight etc.

Regards.

I just noticed that Jimmy/Sonu have the same IP address as Shazad Munawar (Sp?). The address originates from Pakistan. Could it be that Shazad is playing more games with the PP community? He has a bit of history that suggests it is possible (to me):

http://www.planningplanet.com/forum/forum_post.asp?Cat=6&Top=2377

I presume the forum guest is Shazad here (too bad the IPs were not recorded then):

http://www.planningplanet.com/forum/forum_post.asp?Cat=6&Top=4882

I can’t seem to locate the threads, but I also caught Shazad posting text he was lifting from other web sites and passing off as his own words. I think he wanted to present himself as a knowledgeable planner/manager to get a job. It happened shortly after the "Planning Planet is baseless" event.

James, any chance the PP team can try verifying the e-mail address(es) supplied with the respective member registrations? Most commercial forum software e-mails auto-generated passwords to new accounts to ensure that the e-mail addresses supplied are valid. Members may then change the password once they log in. This helps cut down on the possibilities of folks registering extra fake names to troll or play games. It can be taken a step further if necessary by restricting valid e-mail domains during registration (ie. excluding known free services like yahoo, hotmail, etc.).

If I had to guess, I would say that Jimmy has now become Sonu Joshap (from Australia) at http://www.planningplanet.com/forum/forum_post.asp?fid=1&Cat=7&Top=6851.

He is still ’after’ his ex-friend Ness, leaving personal messages. This time I left the message because it wasn’t nasty - just pushy. I am having second thoughts about leaving it in. What do you all say?

Member for

Message sent to Mr Robert,

Hello Jimmy,

This is the second message we have written to you. Your point of view in the PP forum is welcomed - hence the reason that we still welcome you to the group. If we have one more instance of you being rude or abusive in the discussion forum, we will remove your account and prevent you from using the PP in future.

If we do not hear from Mr Stuart Ness that he has had one of these messages from, you apologising for your recent posts, we will have to bend to the wishes for the team and remove your account.

Your "location" should also be changed to reflect your true location in the world.

Regards.

Now little Jimmy roberts doesn’t like Stuart anymore. Here is what he had to say at http://www.planningplanet.com/forum/forum_post.asp?fid=1&Cat=2&Top=7183 before I errased it,

I think this is your MOTO to critise other ,not agree with others points and write long Paras whether it is linked with the subject or not .

TRY to impress the people on the Forum by writing unnecessairaly long paras showing that you have execllent comand on Contracts. Bull shit!!

TRy to avoid it and give the anwser to point in short . We need not to measure your reply in lengths.

Also alska took out of your old mind (since 1956)or still need to refersh it.

I also found that exact, same posting at http://www.planningplanet.com/forum/forum_post.asp?Cat=7&Top=4269.

I think that it is time for Jimmy’s password to go bye-bye.

1) Edit posts as necessary in accordance with forum guidelines.

2) Send Mr. Robert a polite e-mail explaining the forum guidelines and warn him that continued violations may force the PP team to suspend his account.

3) If his account suspended (by changing password as done previously for the other member), just keep an eye out for new registrations on the same IP.

Do you have the ability to blacklist e-mail addresses for new registrations? Ie. to prevent people from registering different accounts with the same e-mail address? How about preventing registrations with e-mail addresses using free/anonymous accounts like @yahoo.com?

I had an idea that might help... You know about the option to have PP automatically email you when someone replys in a forum thread that you had previously posted in?

Would if be possable to prepare a list of PP’ers on Probation and have your email alert routines check against this list before sending? Or perhaps you could ’turn-off’ this feature in some other way on a person-by-person basis.

At least in this way, the ’over-heated’ members would not be encouraged to keep up with the argument. Why keep inviting the malcontent to return to raise the bar even higher?

Hi there,

Our "Jimmy robert" has made another "lively" post. He appears to be located in Pakistan with an IP address of 203.81.198.33. Not in the USA (ALaska) as he claims.

We cant simple ban this IP as it is a shared address used by a ISP in Lahore. "Shahzad Munawar" who has posted over 100 messages is also usign this IP address.

Not sure how we handle this.

Member for

16 years 9 months

Hello there,

From the records it seems that there is no further similarity between these 2 PPers that we can see.

You will see a link showing the IP address against each posting. This only shows IF you are a moderator and IF the post has an IP tagged - i.e. for new posts only.

Not sure if this is the right way of locating an IP. Let us know if we have messed up!!

It appears that our nearly incoherent bad-mouth has come back as "Jimmy robert." When he was "John peter" we changed his password. Notice how both first names start with a "J" and the last name is not capitalized for each? Now he is berating others on how poorly they post and still telling off the Moderators http://www.planningplanet.com/forum/forum_post.asp?fid=1&Cat=7&Top=5327. All this from a guy from USA that can’t speak english well.

Well, what do you think? Should we delete out his rantings against others or just watch the developments?

Member for

Gents,

This "gentleman’s" password has been changed.

It will take more than a significant personal and public appology to you guys before we even consider allowing him access. Am not really sure how we deal with this kind of thing? Any suggestions?

Please accept PP’s appologies if we have been too slow in spotting / handling this.

Regards.

John Peter has this to say in Improving PP,

try to bear things in real life mr. moderator . do not ran way from these like ......

Well, do we delete this as well? As long a PP allows him to dump on us, he will just keep at it (it appears that he has little else to do.)

Member for

Here is the latest post by John peter in the P3 forum. Needless to say, I deleted this post as well. It is time to kick this foul-mouth juvenile off of the net. He doesn’t even speak his own native tongue very well.

I later deleted another posting in a new thread by one of these two ’sparring’ PP members. He is darring us to not delete his post. This person needs another 5 years of maturing to either (1) learn some manners or, (2) learn how to present his ideas in a less sophmorific manner. I’m not holding my breath.
