Whittlebury Hall 2004-2005
WBH were employed to project manage the new prestigious Spa built for Whittlebury Hall in time for the Grand Prix.

The spa boasts new facilities which include a Hammon facility with rusal area, saunas, steam rooms, foot spas, multi functional showers, caldarium, crystal steam room, sunarium, ice cave, salt steam room, treatment rooms, quiet room, hair salon, manicure area, a comprehensive retail area and cafe/bar serving healthy cuisine.
Whittlebury boasts an impressive Conference Centre as well as an elegant, innovative spa that offers a variety of exciting treatments and fitness facilities to suit every type of business or leisure orientated guest.

Business Operations Manager 2001–2004

Steven was accountable for all aspects of Building Operations, delivering projects within cost criteria, to customers’ programme, quality and safety criteria. Responsible for projects that contributed a turnover value £40-50million per annum to the region. This approximately equated to over two million square feet of high bay warehouse space and over one million square feet of office space in the past three years.

The sites under his control consistently achieved high standards of quality, safety, profitability and client satisfaction.


2004 – 2004     Fire Station & Retail Park Aylesbury. (£14m)
The design and construction of a new Fire Station, brigade headquarters and workshop, plus the design and construction of eleven new retail units of approximately 159,000 ft2 with phased demolition of all existing buildings and structures.

2004 – 2004     Northampton College (£4m)
Design and construction of a new inner city 4 storey steel framed college The elevations comprise Kingspan Microrib and Kingspan Flat panelling, facing brickwork fair faced blockwork, Sto Render system, glass blocks, aluminium windows and metal fascia panels.

2003 – 2004     Scottish Courage, Cabot Park, Plot P11, Bristol (£5m)
Design and construction of a new distribution facility comprising storage warehouse and offices for Scottish Newcastle.

2002 – 2003     Mainstream 1, Rugby (£15m)
Design and construction of a 350,000 sq. ft warehouse with 69,208 sq. ft mezzanine and 24,000 sq. ft of offices

2002 – 2003     Mainstream 2, Rugby (£6m)
Design and construction of 212,000 sq. ft warehouse and a 12,000 sq.ft. 2-storey office block.

2002 – 2003     Multi Modal Interchange, Birmingham (£6m)
Design and construction of new concourse and bus terminals with an aerofoil canopy, terrazzo floor, escalators and an infrastructure to join the airport via a Doppelmayr train link to Birmingham International Railway Station.
          
2002 – 2003     DFDS, P2a Cabot Park Plot P2a, Bristol (2.0m)
Design & construction of a new distribution facility comprising storage warehouse and offices for DFDS. Building works involve earthworks, driven pre-cast piling, erection of steel frame, cladding, and internal concrete slab together with mechanical and electrical installation. External works include drainage, access roads, concrete service yards, car park, landscaping and fencing

2002 – 2003     Hams Hall Plot 10, Birmingham (£6m)
Design & construction of a single storey warehouse unit of 215,000 sq. ft with an attached two-storey office of 10,000 sq. ft.

2002 – 2003     Sandpit Road, Dartford (£6m)
Brown field site, removal and crushing of existing hard standings and foundations, treatment of Japanese knotweed and contaminated land.
Design & construction of a single storey warehouse / production unit of 144,420 sq. ft. gross internal area, with an attached two storey office of 15,450 sq. ft.

Design & Construction of 150,000sqft Warehouse, with attached 10,00sqft Offices and all associated external works, drainage and Landscaping

2002     Unit 2 – Lakeside, West Thurrock (£3.1m)
Brown field site, demolition and crushing of existing hard standing, treatment of contaminated land.
Design & construction of a single storey warehouse unit of 105,000 sq.ft. with an attached two storey office of 5,000 sq. ft.

2001 – 2002          Holiday Inn Express, Oxford     (£5.2m)
Design and construction of a 162 bedroom Holiday Inn Express hotel, plus co-ordination of the clients FF&E Suppliers

2002     Plot 2 Extensions, Marston Gate (£4.5m)
A 150,000 sq. ft. warehouse and two-storey office of 10,000 sq.ft.

2002     Arensen Way, Dunstable (£2.4m)
Brown field site, removal and crushing of the existing hard standing.
Design and construction of five number units total office/warehouse area 6400m2.

2001          Project Knight fit out, Corby (£1.1m)
Design and construction of warehouse and office Sprinklers, lighting, fire alarms. Tank bases and office fit out.

Project Manager 1996-2001
Steven supervised Birse site teams of ten persons plus and a workforce numbering 60-150 persons. He promoted and shared learning throughout the business and exerted influence over site teams quickly as necessary.

Design and Build. Warehouse including mezzanine. Ground floor area 70,794 sq.ft. Mezzanine area 17,792 sq.ft. Office core areas 8,402 sq. ft.

1999-2000     Four warehouse/office units, Solar Park, Birmingham (£6m)
Design and build. Four industrial units – totalling 259,243 sq. ft.

1998-99     Units 3A & 3B, Hams Hall, (£6m,)
Design and Build. Two warehouse office units totalling 190,000 sq. ft. warehouse and 11,000 sq. ft. office areas.

1998     Stanley Tools, Unit H, Northampton (£6m)
150,000 sq. ft. of warehouse area and 12,000sq. ft. of offices. Design and Build.

1997 – 98
Site Manager     After setting up a planning department I moved back into my preceding role as site manager

Tesco National Distribution Centre, Milton Keynes (£26m)
Design and Build. Distribution and Training Centre totalling 560,000 square metres, with 80,000 sq.ft. of office space.
Here I looked after all the finishes and M&E plus the planning for the entire project.

1996-97
Senior Planner     Following the success at Argos I moved into the office to help set up a planning department as nothing existed before my arrival.
I gave input on tenders regarding durations, how to build to preliminary costs on projects ranging from a £0.5m road diversion to the £26m Reading Football Club Stadium. .

1996
Site Planner     Steven was initially taken on by Birse as a junior agent but was asked to fulfil the role as planner for

Argos Distribution Centre, Stafford (£16m).
Design and Build. Distribution facility totalling 40,000 square metres.
At this time Birse had only one planner without the required experience. I planned the whole project and client fit out from tender to completion. I invented strategic planning, which brought planning forward from just bar charts to a client friendly display-monitoring tool.

1995
Construction Manager     HOWARD ASSOCIATES
Booker Distribution Centre, Banbury. (£12m.)
Food Distribution facility. Works included a high bay warehouse, cold store, chilled store and ambient food storage areas, offices, plant rooms, other ancillary rooms and external works.
Again the site team were self sufficient and my roles were similar to that of the project manager but we employed up to 40 main contractors for work packages instead of sub contractors

Sub Agent 1990-94

Steven ran contracts in the Agent’s absence and managed subcontractor’s programmes and progress, and developed relationships with professionals, client, sub contractors etc.
