Website Upgrade Incoming - we're working on a new look (and speed!) standby while we finalise the project

Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

+ or - adjustment to the overall project duration

Because Powerproject doesn’t have the same "global edit" facilities of P3, I’ve used the mass-edit capabilities of Excel to extend or reduce the overall duration of a previously prepared programme.

Good with any number of activities (and ALL activities share EQUALLY in contributing to the longer or shorter overall duration).

Epecially useful in "massaging" programmes that contain a high number of activities.

Useful eg:

to create a (shorter) Target Programme from a previously prepared detailed Contract programme.

to create a (longer) Contract programme from a previously prepared detailed Construction programme.

Also useful for preparing "what if" examples of different overall durations

If interested, please just email, and I’ll send over a method sheet

Cheers
Stewart

Hello David

Many thanks for your reply. I see what you are explaining, but I must be trying to use the feature in the wrong way - can I call you for a quick chat to understand the use properly?

Also, I must agree about the under-training on these feature-rich softwares

Thanks

I am not sure what you mean by a ’global edit facility’ or what you are looking to do but I do think you might be surprised with some of the things you can do with Powerproject.

For instance, I am guessing you might be trying to globally adjust activity durations to crash a programme? Well, you can select any number of tasks (using Shift click for adjacent tasks or Ctrl click for individual tasks) then on the panel at the bottom, the middle window where the duration is shown, you can put stuff like -2d to decrease all the selected tasks by two days, similarly +2d will add two days to all the selected activity durations. More excitingly you can do stuff like put +50% and all selected activities will be increased by 50%.

Of course other global edits can be made by similarly selecting all or any number of tasks and dragging codes, recourses, cash and so on onto the tasks.

So... I am not absolutely sure what you mean when you are comparing to Primavera. I don’t think Primavera, especially P3, has the monopoly on tricks these days. Seems to me that lots of folk expect to be able to pick up feature rich software and use it without any formal training?

That’s all, no offence intended.
