Omar Rosal,
If you are using Server P6 Database that should not be a problem. Both of you can work at the same time on the same project. If both of you are using standalone project then one must have a Master Schedule or create a master schedule.

As I mention on my previous post, there are so many ways but it depends on what you would like to do.

Here are some options that you can use.
Option 1
Create an EPS level project (WBS style) broken down to EPC. Meaning main EPS is the whole Project and have EPS Element like Engineering, Procurement and Construction.
Each element have a subproject as second level of WBS and having external link from project to project. Using this setup every planner can work on their particular area and update each project. (ex: 1 planner for eng, 1 planner for procurement and 1 planner for construction)

Option 2.
Create a Master Project Schedule with the proper link.
Each Planner can take care on each area using WBS level. (i.e. Eng, Procurement, Const) then when updating Master Project Schedule, Use export xer with filter set per each area on the modified schedule and import back to Master Schedule.

Option 3.
Same as Option 2 having a Master Schedule.
Delete old activities that need to modify then copy and pasted using default options and re-link engineering, procurement and construction again.

Option 4.
Same as option 2 & 3 with Master Schedule but use WBS window to delete WBS and copy new WBS from each modified projects.

I suggest Option 1 with more flexibility or option 2 using filter exports and import to Master Schedule don’t break the link connection for each area.
Best Regards,
Rodel

Hi Omar,
this function is standard in Spider Project and is done by one mouse click but to my knowledge in P6 it can be done only by export/import in Excel.

Vladimir

Thanks Rodel, but this is easy if I need to do it in one activity but please check this case:

We are preparing a EPC schedule for a client ( we need to send it to them ) and I’m working with Engineering and Procurement and our partner are working in their area (construction ) we defined earlier the WBS, codes and everything ( there are links between my and their activities already defined ) but we need to modify in parallel our activities and finally I need to introduce their changes into my schedule and issue the XER to the client.
What do you suggest is the best way to proceed?

Omar Rosal,
If you want to maintain the link within the copy activity and replace the old activity with new copied activities then first you need to delete first the old activity that you need to replace. Next copy the new activity with P6 default "maintained relationship on copied activities only".

Many thanks Rodel for your answers,

But how can I proceed if I need exactly the opposite?
I mean, I want to copy some activities from one projecto to another and I’d like to replace those activities and I don’t want to maintaing the link with the source project but maintain the links with the activities in the new one.

Example:

Project A..
activity 1 linked with act2.

Project B (Project A modification)...
Act1 linked with act2 (modified) and act3 (new)

I want to include the changes performed in project B into project A.
The problem is:
If I copy from project B the act2 and act3 and paste it into project A, I’d like two things:
1.-The act2 replace the same act2 into the project A with the modification performed in project B.
2.-the act2 use (keep) the relationship with act1 but in the project A not B.

Sorry for this big issue.......

Omar Rosal,
Copying Activities from Project to Project are not duplicating information as it create separate unique ID that identify each other. By default P6 maintained relationship on copied activities only but have an option to maintain all relationship including the source. When prompted "Specify the Activity Information to be copied" remove the tick on "Only between copied Activities" to maintain also the source relationship.

One Question about P6 - Copy activities across to another project ??????

I need to copy a few activities (keeping the exisiting relationships/resource/costs...) over to another project in P6 and when I do that, the activities mantains the relationships with the source project and I’m not sure if I’m duplicating some information.

Maybe my last option is to export and import from excel but I can lose information.

Sorry for my english

Haresh,
I’m not really sure what do you want to do. There are so many solutions to your problem but it depends on what you really want to do. Below are some options.
1)     Export to XER with filter only on updated activities and import to your new revised program.
2)     Save the new revised program as new baseline
3)     Open both project at the same time and copy and paste.
