Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

I am brand new to P5 and I am stumbling while importing from Excel files. I have these questions.

1) Should WBS codes be manually created (and referenced in the Excel Files)in P5 before exporting activities?

2) For some reason, my START dates are not importing correctly. They are defaulting to the DATA date. I have a DURATION column and FINISH colum and they are populating correctly, however all my START dates are defaulting to data dates.

I would really appreciate if anybody can shed some light on these issues.

Many thanks.

I agree with David,

you must have relationships between your activities in order to schedule the work. Otherwise all activities will move to the data date as there is nothing telling them they can’t start immediately.

Hi There,

You are importing activities.Ok.

But if there is no relationship b/w activities, whether you import it or not, it is logical to see the start dates as data dates on the program.

Start dates, durations and finish dates are not enough to create a cpm. Relationship of those activites has to be defined as well.

Hope this helps

I am not importing relationships, just activities.

Can you create WBS by importing?

Hi There,

Did you check the relationship of activities?

I mean, while importing or exporting are you also importing or exporting predecessors or successors of activities.

It may cause such problem.
