Hi all ,

I have created a schedule , for which i have saved Baseline program in P3.1. After some duration there was some changes in ongoing project, which made many old activities which were at various stages of completion redundant, and required new activities to be added.

Now my boss wants to see in ongoing program , baseline bars for activites that were deleted .Which i dont know how to resolve . Since in Ongoing program those activites are not there hence baseline bars are not shown.

Can any one guide me through this, or let me know how do you all respond to such situation.

Awaiting impatiently your valuable replies.

Thanks

Hi to all,

In addition to what Jackie said, one may really need not delete programmed activities especially in a Master Program since it somehow implies to work variations and changes. Record of which can actually be utilized in future program (delay) analysis and presentations. I actually have done it that way in my recently completed project with enormous additional works and variations.

Simply sharing.

You could possibly leave the activities in your schedule and code them as deleted activities. This would allow you to filter them in or out as you wish.

Just ensure you fix them in position and remove logic from them so as to not allow them to impact your schedule.

Also ensure you set it up as to not have cost or resource data corrupting your reports.

This is not ideal but could work for your situation

You could make your current version a baseline to your original target.

Hi All ,

I think , even if my boss has asked for something which is not possible in P3. But i agree that what he has asked is quite logical from execution and record point of view. We all do face sometime or other the situation , where we have to start redoing activites again due to some reasons in my case , it is change of location. So engg. activites related to that location has now become redundant.

Does any one know , of any other software where this type of facility is available or let me know , what do you do when faced with such type of situation.

Expecting few replies on this.

Thanks,

Ferdinand,

Ok, you will see more bars from your baseline/target compared to your current schedule, but it does’t represent anything. You are right, baseline for nothing, but it will serve as a reminder that originally, your plan has that certain activity or activities.

cheers!

Hi Anoon and all,

I know what you mean. This line of Vinod’s questioning is what is bothering me, "..to see in ongoing program , baseline bars for activites that were deleted...". It is then the question of presentation on how to show such baseline bar of an activity that has been deleted or no longer existent in that particular ongoing program. Is that still possible?

Thanks and be patient with me.

Cheers!

Ferdinand,

Please read post no. 1, it was mentioned that the baseline was saved. Assuming that the changes (deleted activities) were done only on the Current/Working schedule, it doesn’t affect the saved Baseline/Target. Vinod can still show all the bars of the Target even if not consistent with the current/working schedule anymore. Thru it, you will see the difference between your Current against your Baseline/Target (in terms of number of activities or in any way). Oh by the way, you also can have two targets/baselines at the same time.

hope it’s clear.

Baseline is referenced by activity id. In your main project you’ll have to create activities with the same id as those in the baseline. then those activities will be displayed again.

Are you sure that you had saved your baseline (target)? If you did, then it’s still intact even if you have deleted all the activities of your Current Schedule. But if you have deleted the baseline/target itself, then it’s time to prepare a new one.

If you want to see the target bars, you need to select/show it. P3 can show 3 bars in a row.

Hi Vinod,

It seems that your boss knows a lot about Primavera or he simply is a dumb when it comes to Primavera usage. All I know is that when you delete an activity in the program it is forever gone along with its baseline and other formatting with no trace or shadow in its database.

Hope the experts in here may share some idea on your query and to my above reply as I may have said wrong information to you.

Cheers! It’s just a one dirham share from me.

Regards,
Ferdinand
