Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

As we have stated in previous posts, if the Project file is in .MPP (Project 2000 or later version), you need a MPP to MPX convertor to prepare a .MPX from .MPP

Once you have the .MPX, P3 will ’take’ the file by MPX to P3 conversion utility.

Hi,

I’m facing the same probs here. I have created a Project in MS Projects 2003. I cannot convert it using MPX-to-P3 conversion utility. Also, even if this happens partially, I loose all resouces, cash-flow, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Karo,

what i understand from your question is you are able to convert MSP 98 to P3, but you can’t do it with MSP 2000 file then save MSP2000 file into lower version i.e, MSP 98 version file, then you can convert this file into P3.

or else you have to download the utility(MPP to MPX) converter file from primavera knowledge base to do the conversion of MSP 2000 file format directly into MPX file, then go to tools from p3, click MPX conversion utility, then select the MPX file to convert it into P3 files.

refer this link for further details

If the MsProject is version 2000 or above, the file is in MPP format, then you need a MPP to MPX convertor for the changes. P3 default CD provide MPX to P3 function only.
MPP to MPX convertor is available on Primavera Knowledgebase.

As a small suggestion, while if you want to import a big file of having more than 2000 lines, it is better to use .dbf as a file format, so that the import will be clean and perfect.

First off ... there are a lot of topics in the forum about this that explain the ways to import. But hey ... try this:

1) Make an export to .wk1 from P3 with all the fields you will be filling from your MS Project Spreadsheet. In selection, select one (1) activity.

2) Open the .wk1 file in Excell and delete the exported row

3) Open the other spreadsheet too.

4) Copy/Paste the data (not the column names) from the Projects Spreadsheet into the P3 Spreadsheet in the appropriate columns

5) Save the .wk1 as a .wk1 file

6) Import the newly populated P3 spreadsheet into you planning

This should do the trick.
Last note ... always wise to backup your project prior to importing.

Hope this helps.
