Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

yes

1. Go ot the Project directory and make sure that your project is highlighted click on the resource tab and on the right under resource assignment make sure that Resources can be assigned to same activity more than once is NOT checked

Also on the calculations tab make sure that on the rigth under Resource Assignments make sure that when updating Actual units or costs make sure that subtract actual from at completion is checked. Also make sure that recalculate actual unist and costs when duration % complete changes.

2. create a resource make sure then when you create this resource that CALCULATE COSTS FROM UNITS IS SET TO NO

3. filter for activites that you want to assign the resource to.

4. select all of the filter activities

5. right click and select assign resource and assign  the resource that you just created.

6. File export and select resource and resource assignment and yhen select modify and make sure to export the budgeted units and at completion units. Export this to excel.

7. make you modification to this file in excle and save you file.

8. In P6 select file import and select the file that you just saved.

9. During the import select resources and resource assignments.

The key is setting up the resource and assigning the resource to the activities and then using this a s template to export so that you can populate it in excel and import it back into P6.

How to create a recovery schedule you have 3 options

Option #1 Fast Tracking

Fast Tracking the schedule means to Revise the logic and do thing concurrently or in parallel which means that your manpower peak will be higher but it will be the same number of man-hours except for additional supervision.A good rule of thumb is that sequential activities can sometimes be fast-tracked by up to 33%. In other words, if you're fast-tracking, you can start the second of two sequential activities when the first activity is 66% complete. So when you are 66% complete with the first conduit activity you can start the wire pulling.

Option #2 Crashing the Schedule

Crashing the schedule means to reduce your durations but you will have to increase your man-hours because you need more men to do it in a shorter amount of time. You would shorten the duration of the activities on the critical path by throwing additional resources to the critical path without necessarily getting the highest level of efficiency. You might have to do several iterations because you crash one critical path then something else becomes critical. You will have increased cost in with this option.

Option #3 use option #1 AND option #2
