(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

Automatic Running Number for Activity Id

Dear P6 Experts,

Is there any easier or straight forward way to re-number the activity ids so that at the end of the schedule development process, we will have a properly sequenced running numbers? At times, we do insert additional activities in between other activities and the end result is a non sequential id numbers.

I noticed that the only way to change the activity id running numbers in bulk is by exporting it out to excel, changing the running numbers there and importing back to P6.

Is there anyway to use global change to automate the running numbers?

In P6 Version 7 there is such a feature "Renumber Activity ID’s".

Out of P6 Help:
Auto-Number renumbers selected activity IDs based on the sort order of activities in the activity table. The first activity in the sort order is renumbered using the values you type in the Prefix and Suffix text fields. The remaining selected activities are renumbered using the same suffix and prefix, and they are incremented using the value you type in the Increment Value text field. If P6 detects that it would renumber a selected activity ID to an activity ID that already exists, exclusive of those you selected, then the Duplicates dialog box appears. You use that dialog box to enter another activity ID. (end of quotation)
With older versions just the way via EXCEL.
