Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi there,
I have built a hammock activity in my planning to host the project management work; one resource is allocated there 1h/d.
When I update the project with Update Progress, the hammock ES date moves forward to the data date; I tried to enter an Actual Start date before launching the 1st Update Progress, with the same result: Actual Start moves to the data date.
Where is my mistake?
Thanks,
Alexandre

Dear planner

A hammock in P3 is kind of act like a summary bar

With that intension, you dont want to assign any lag to the relationship between the hammock and the associated activity. (Because it will then reflected a wrong summary)

In order to have the hammock show the earliest start date of a series of activities you need to link them as SS with the Hammock activity. Same applied to Finish date.

Cheers

Hi
Just one other thing to be aware of.
P3 specifies that the predecessor(s) to a hammock must be SS and the successor(s) must be FF. BUT it allows you to enter any relationship type (e.g. SF, with lags) but these relations are just ignored. Daft, but there it is!

Alexandre,

If your hammock has no predecessors P3 will assume that the hammock starts on the data date - regardless of any actual data you may enter.

If you already have a predecessor, make sure that you have input an actual start date on this activity. If there is no predecessor I suggest creating a milestone to signify the start of the project (start of PM activity) and designating this milestone as the predecessor of your PM hammock - enter your actual start against this milestone and you should be in business.

Cheers,
Drew
