Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

I am looking for Help from Sr. Or Jr. Scheduler/Planner with specific experience in EPC (scheduling) because I will be interviewing this week for a Project Controls Specialist Role (i.e Scheduler) and would like to know what questions would you ask someone that will be assuming a Jr. Role in the project.

A little background on the Project:

Project Features
• 60 miles of 500-kV transmission line
• 27 miles of 220-kV transmission line
• Modification of three existing substations
• Two new substations in the wind farm region
The Project will consist of the development of the following transmission line and substation facility projects (Electrical Transmission & Distribution) which will be delivered under Engineer/Procure/Construct (EPC) or Design/Build (D/B) contracts.

1st Ten Questions I was already asked: (here is just a few I can remember they asked me already)

*Relections (How to create one/How to merge the changes you will add to the source project)…Which I have no problems doing. (oh, guys they are using P6.2, I have never worked on Ver. 6.2 but know Ver. 6.0 and Ver. 6.1. Is there a difference between Ver. 6.1 and Ver. 6.2 dunno.

*Out Of Sequence Logic or Work (is when work begins on an
activity prior to the completion of its predecessor activities.) I had enough practice on this sort of thing when I was working at Intel and their crazy schedules.

*Total float vs free float (Total Float = Late Start – Early Start or Late Finish – Early Finish) And (free float or FF) is the number of days an activity can be delayed without delaying the early start date of the next activity.

So if you guys can think of any questions that could be asked during an interview for EPC scheduling project that would be a great source of help to this Jr. Scheduler, who is just trying to make a dollar.

Thanks guys, I will appreciate any help from you Sr. Or Jr. guys who have gone through this process already and are asking folks like myself questions at interviews.

Sincerely Yours,

Jose V. Ramirez

They also wanted to know if I understood the LogFile on P6.

The Log File to me is just a way to find out what activities: are out of sequence, have no successor/predecessors, Activities with unsatisfied constraints, have start date after the Data date, etc.

What i don’t know is if you guys that work on the EPC side used the (Write Trace of Internal Functions when you create your log file). Is this to trace who is making changes to the schedule. Is this a common practice?

Would this be all i need to know?
