Website Upgrade Incoming - we're working on a new look (and speed!) standby while we finalise the project

Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Your idea is great, but unfortunately 10000kms to far (by a hole) away. I’m afraid that I won’t get any support by my employer to join.
Regards and good luck

Why Planners lack the will or lost their BALLS?

Because the Project Manager is the greatest IDIOTS in project implementation.

and since the responsibility of projects is in the hands of project managers, the project manager can manipulate, tweak, dictate everything as he fits for the interest of the projects to succeeds.

What can a planner do in this situation.

Hi Chris,

Going back to your post no. 1

You can start by digesting P3 tutorial.

Then, go to P3 Manual.

From this two important reference, you can difinitely come up with method statement for planning.

Then, then, try to read Mr. Harris books.

Big chance you will have the same thought or you will come up with the same methodology

but, since you have already an experience, please try to make simulation using your experience as hypothehical projects since big chance your project planning activities are not implementing what should be done as per textbook, manuals, reference guide, even MR. Harris books, etc., etc.

Why Why Why this is so??

This happend because most planners don’t have BALLS (of course, if the planners is a girl, difinitely she has no balls)

BALLS TO SAY, This is the way we Planners are doing what planning and scheduling should be done.

Thanks for that, are you a member of the Planning engineers organisation?
I think that Gary needs some assistance. As you have no doubt noticed that the PP site consists of about ... what .. 95% folk who do not have any where near the skills levels that should now be evident after many years of PMI, AIPM, AACE etc.
All that education I wonder where it went?

My early days working in the UK, the companies I worked were world leader’s in planning and scheduling, we had all our Methods , Processes, Practices etc all very well work out. We had great success in actually delivering projects.

I can remember working on a number of major British Rail and CEGB projects which were well run and actually delivered.

Of course they all used ICL 1900 Series, so I am bit biased there.

Then Bill Gates fronted and fairly soon after, skills, discipline, knowledge all went by the wayside.

I live in fear that one day I will finish up flying on a Jumbo where the pilots total flying training has been on MS Flight Simulator.

It will happen as it has happened to planning and scheduling

Next week I am starting up in Brisbane a Planner and Schedulers group based on the premise of being ethical and who knowing how things actually work.

I extend an invitation to all P & S who believe that we should be ethical in the way we plan and schedule and not fiddle the results, or worse make then up because of lack of knowledge to join us. Of course it will be internet based, but we must get back to proper methods.

Well this late at night that is my five cents worth

David I am pleased you have contacted John, cos he was the one who started some of this

Many thanks for your kind words
I am quite often in the UK, in fact I have just returned, so that was bad timing.
I am one of the owners of Micro Planning International and we are just about to celebrate our thirtieth year since we first release Micro Planner Planning and Scheduling products.
Must be doing something right. Have alook at the site for planning engineers
www.planningengineers.org and you will that we are right up there.
You might like to contact my UK MD - John Cornish.
His details are on www.microplanning.co.uk
I have posted some good articles and my Basic Critical Path book on the site, so that all the people on PP who want to find out how to plan, just have to download it and it saves us so much time.

Stay in touch, there is tons of work for top class P & S people here in Australia

Knowing Andy, he is shy retiring type who does all the extraordinary hours because he is passionate about REAL Planning and Scheduling.

But then he has been known to drink a beer or several.
In fact come along to our Planners and schedulers Get together in Brisbane

The venue this time around will be The Brew House Level 1, 142 Albert Street, Brisbane City, 4000.

Timing for the event will be from 5pm Friday 6th June, until you want to go.

If we get more than 10 acceptances, I
Andy will reserve an area with a pool table.

Please ensure that you provide him with an RSVP by Friday 30MAY08.

Again if you know of any other people who we can add to the list let me know, and forward the invite on.

Then you can reward him :-)

A man in demand! I should think some recompense for Andrews hard work is called for.

He may not ask for anything but wouldn’t it be nice to offer something? I have no idea what but have a think...

Chris,
I’m currently trying to pull one together, (just not enough hours in the day to finish it) as I’m sick of trying to convince management why they need a schedule.

Send me an e-mail at andrewtdick@hotmail.com and when I’m finished it I’ll send you a copy.

Andy
