Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Total float zero but not on critical path.

Hi everyone,

I have a schedule where all dates are entered in days. This is shared on a live server.

I somehow now have a schedule with some activities having a total float of above zero but less than 1.

 

As a result, on a reset to default F9, some activities show zero float but not critical.

 

I know of a hundred ways to show these as critical, however, I would like the default settings to show this without any tinkering.

How you would approach debuging these less that 1 day floats?

 

notable hints are: Floats with 0.11 or 0.10 values, calendars with 9h/d, 5d/w and 10h/d, 7d/w etc.

without looking at it I would say that some of your durations are not in whole days turn on the decimals in the durations

to check this look under edit users preference.

Then click on the Time Units tab on the left 

under the Durations format on the right choose 2 decimals

also your data date TIME and or your Project Must finish by TIME maybe in correct

and your calendar may not be in whole hours.

also if you have any hard constrained dates their TIMES could be incorrect 

to check this go to edit users preference 

click on the Dates tab on the left and at the bottom select TIME then check 12 hour

I have no problems showing these as critical,

I am looking for info on how to tackle the root reason this 0.11-0.10 float is created.

what is the bit of data that causes this.

go to your Projects directory click on the settings tab

under Define Critical Activities

check Total Float less than or equal to

then on the right hand side put in the number 1 or 0 which ever you prefer
