You will need to understand the process well before you plan it. I would suggest that you meet with the team working on the project and understand the process.
In General, you will need the following:
1. Fit up.
Location of the joint and the time needed to have it ready for welding.
2. Welding.
We talked briefly about it.
3. Testing.
You will need to read the specification and find out what is required; MPI, UT, RT, Hardness, Hydro, etc.
4. Treatment.
What type of finish is required and where is it going to be treated.
You can look to the other post for details. My suggestion for level of breakdown for piping could come from hydrotest packages and mechanical completion system.
If the system is already on the way (Majority of hydrotest packages prepared and majority of the mechanical completion-commissioning plans prepared, you can use
-LVL 1 Discipline
-LVL 2 SYSTEM
-LVL 3 LINE
-LVL 4 Hydrotest package (Activities Pipe Fab Erec. Test. ..)
If none of the hydrotest packs or MCs are ready. If you have a preliminary quantity survey; you can go as:
-LVL1 Discipline
-LVL2 SYSTEM(If systems are not ready MATERIAL TYPE)
-LVL3 AREA-ISO
-LVL4 Just activities for Areas (Pipe Fab Erec. Test. ..)
As a planning engineer, you need to create you WBS first. Have a meeting with the senior people and divide the project into segments. And make sure that the sum of all the segments equal to the complete job that you have.
Yes, you need to spend you time at site monitoring the activities. And try to determine the number of resources available to complete the job.
Spider Project is most functional and powerful professional project management software.
The first SP version was launched in 1993 and since then it has been constantly improved. Today is used in 34 countries though most Spider Project customers are in Russia. Spider Project offers numerous unique functional features and is the only PM software that optimizes resource, cost, and material constrained schedules and budgets for projects and portfolios.
The unique features of Spider Project include Quantity Based Scheduling, Conditional Scheduling, Skill Scheduling, Optimal Resource, Cost and Material Leveling, Resource Critical Path Calculation, Cash and Material Flows Calculation and Management, Trend Analysis, Advanced Risk Simulation and Analysis, Calculation of Success Probability Trends, Calculation and Management of required Project Time and Cost Buffers, Application of Corporate Norms, Management of many Parallel Budgets, Multiple WBS and many others.
Spider Project was and is used for management of many large scale programs in Russia, including $51bln construction program for 2014 Winter Olympic Games preparation.
The application areas where Spider Project is successfully used include Aerospace, Banking, Construction, Defense, Energy, Engineering, Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Metallurgy, Mining, Oil & Gas, Railways, Retail, Shipbuilding, Software Development, Telecommunications, Utilities, etc.

Agreed
i m on ma way u guide
i m elaborating welding procedures,positions,ete
I also talked to welder n tried to extract some fruit

Thanks dear
What would u recomended me for ma vision upgradation??
Any site ? any materail??

Regards,
Safak
We got CS 40" dia schedule 40
line.
it got around 40 joints to weld.
let say it is positioned n beveled .
ready to weld.
it is an arc welded.
Another qstion..
On what level piping to be planned.
should it be isometric sheet wise.
Exmple
Natural gas line NG012-Sht1
Natural Gas Line NG012-Sht2
Natural gas line NG013- Sht 3
Is it fair
please give me another suitable idea for piping plan
Dear Asadullah,
This is easy, we can work it together.
How many joints do you have?
As a planning engineer, you need to create you WBS first. Have a meeting with the senior people and divide the project into segments. And make sure that the sum of all the segments equal to the complete job that you have.

yes
But i m in constrction department.
my project is in erection phase
I should understand thad i must pass time with worker at site ??
means no any thumb rule to assign durations?
Dear Asadullah,
I would suggest that you spend few hours in the shop each day and monitor the work.
Also check the production reports. If you do not have production reports for the weld. They you need to make one and ask your supervisors to fill it.
Steel mills have automatic ERW machines to produce pipies of different sizes.
If you are fabricating the pipes and creating structures like handrails, etc, then you are talking about a steel fabrication shop.

Samer
Thank u so much for ur responce.
i work for tuwairqi steel mill ltd .
i m here as a planning engineer for 9 months
The problume i usually face is to assign duration to activity.like piping ,equipment or structure.]
I want to know thad is there any thumb rule for duration(Estimate)??
or it only comes by expeirence??
I need ur co operation to make ma vision broad.
Dear friend,
Can you give us a more clear idea about the job that you are working on.
The best measure of productivity is to monitor the workers at site for few days.
Best Regards,
Samer
