Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Dear Planners,

I wander if somebody could share experience on how to copy full primavera PMDB database from one standalone installation to another.

Initially I thought that the backup / restore function in SQL Server Management Studio is exactly for that purpose but it appears that this function will only restore the database which has been backed up and will not overwrite the new empty database with the previously backed up data.

It happened so that I had to reinstall P 6.1 on my desktop and although I have back up files and actual DAT and LOG files of the old database I still cannot get P6 read them.

Any assistance is highly appreciated.

Regards,

Alex

Thanks a lot! Issue resolved.

The resynchronization was the missing element in the chain.

Hi Alex,

You can perform a backup and restore to other computer. I have done this many times from desktop to desktop, desktop to laptop (XP to Vista or Vista to XP).

Please refer to the Solution ID: prim54984 (How to backup and restore a SQL 2005 Express Database) at Primavera KnowledgeBase Interaction. If you don’t have the access I can post the link here.

Regards,

Arnold
