Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

I have and xer file that is a client project (call it Proj A) that has been imported in P6. This project originally had relationships to external projects but after importing these links no longer constrain the activities in Proj A. The dates will be reflected as it was when linked to the external projects. When I schedule, the activities that are now open-started (ie no predecessor) move to my data date loosing their original dates.

How can I schedule the newly imported project whilst keeping the original start dates in tact for the open-started activities? Is there a setting of some sort or will I have to manually put a constraint into each of the open started activities?

Thanks for that David. That is what I did in the end.

When you import a project that had external relationships the "External" date fields are populated. So the "External early finish" is when the predecessor from the missing project finished.

Move those dates to a Start-on-or-after constraint and the job is done.

I have tried doing the "Ignore relationships to and from other projects" but it does not work. I guess it only works if there is a link to an exterternal project, which in this case, there aren’t any links because only one project was exported in xer format. I had to do it manually by identifying open started activities and then putting a constraint on each one, thereby locking in the dates.

Hi,

Before scheduling (F9), try to go to option and mark the checkbox next to "Ignore relationships to and from other projects".

Just try this.

the setting you are looking for is the "Constraint"
ofcourse you have to ,manually put a constraint, but that is not complicated, you can do it in Global change or manually after filtering out all "external linked activities"
