Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi all,

Is it possible to import a list of codes from say ’Excel’ straight to the Activity Codes?
Or do I have to manually input them?
(there are hundreds & I’d like an easy option if there is one).

Cheers

As to my previous post,

i do this alot too, and the place i am currently working,
managers changes there code assignment monthly too!

but not to worry, i ask them to do it in excel, and i import them directly, and easily.

so check this out David and friends,
it can create code fast and directly, instead of doing so many loops to get the code in.

You must get the Dictionary.xls version you need from the Primavera Tech support site. This uses the SDK to update activity code dictionaries directly form Excel. Its not perfect - the SDK is a bit flaky - but it sure beats typing.

Glenn,

You can do this through outline codes in MS Project (providing that you are not using 2007)

- create an outline field in MSP ("act-code", for instance)
- define a code mask for "act-code" in MSP and allow for new codes by default
- copy/paste from Excel (using a dummy task for each code)
- save the mpp, close MSP
- Import the mpp into P5/P6

Niek.
