Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Level Of Effort is an activity type similar to P3 Hammocks. I cant figure out how they compute Percent Complete and Total Float. The manual and help files are silent on this. Can anyone offer some help here?

P3e 4.0 should clear this matter

Try to avoid LOE tasks if possible. If you do use them then I recommend that, if you want to measure CPI, SPI and EV, then limit the duration of these activities to 3 months.
Also, the relationship should be SS on the first "hammock" and FF on the last.

Khalid,

Thank your for your in-depth reply. This does help clear up some things. One warning, though. P3e Level-of-Effort (LOF) activities DO NOT always span the latest start to the earliest finish as published in the manual. They span the dates they are related to.

Unlike P3 Hammocks, LOE activities can have any of the four relationships. An LOE can be related to the start of an activity or its finish. If you use a start-to-start, then LOE will begin when the other activity starts. A start-to-finish will result in the LOE starting when the activity finishes.

The effest of this on the computation of total float (especially when multiple activities are involved) hurts my head thinking about it.

Dear Ronald

P3e apply the following calculations for the Level Of Effort activities

Early start = earliest early start of Level Of Effort Predecessors

Late Start = earliest late start of Level Of Effort Predecessors

Early Finish= Latest early Finish of Level Of Effort Successors

Late Finish= Latest late Finish of Level Of Effort Successors

Total Float = Late finish - Early finish

Original Duration = Early Finish - Early start

Remaining Duration = Early finish - Datat Date

% complete = (Original Duration - Remaining Duration)/Original Duration
