Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi All,

Happy New Year!! One of our users is experiencing printing issues when he tries to print to pdf format. It totally locks up his pc. We have narrowed the issue down to corrupt P3 files. His files are locking up on other user’s pc’s. Is there a way or a utility within P3 that will decorrupt bad files? Or has anyone experienced this issue before? Thanks for any advice or feedback.

Gary,

P3 printing a PDF crash is a classic symptom of the need to add the P3 Version 3.1 Service Pack 3 patch. Highly recommended. Good luck!

I had an intermittent problem with printing to pdf causing my machine to crash. Never really got to the bottom of it, but I did notice that the problem only happened when attempting to print from the print preview screen.

This doesn’t sound like the same problem, but may be.

Cheers,
G

Hi Hannes!

Thank you for the advise. I’ll keep it in mind the next time i get in trouble. This is a simpler and much easier way of handling this problem. Great advice.

Best regards,

Jorge

Mostly I got these problems solved by using the tools->project utilities->copy. P3 seems not to copy errors.

1. Please check that you have amply disk space. I forgot how much free disk space you need. But I guess 500MB would suffice.

2. If your P3 files are actually corrupt, it has been my experience that using the P3FIX utility doesn’t really totally fix it. What you can do is
a. run a batch file to extract your whole project in ascii format (refer to the Batch help file that comes with the P3 software.)
b. delete your project (don’t forget to back it up first with ZIP).
c. Run Batch again but this time use the resulting file from Item A. This will re-create your project.

This should fix the corrupt database.

However, perform item 1 first as your database may not be corrupt at all but just needs disk space.

Best regards,

Jorge
