Website Upgrade Incoming - we're working on a new look (and speed!) standby while we deliver the project

Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Hi,

I wish to know how you deal when project is underway and you have to record the progress when new items or new job have been added to your original contract. For example, let’s take the following example:

Activity Estim. MH Weight Progress Earned
-------- --------- ------ -------- ------
Act. 1 150 15% 100% 150
Act. 2 250 25% 60% 150
Act. 3 200 20% 15% 30
Act. 4 180 18% 0% 0
Act. 5 220 22% 0% 0
--------- ------ -------- ------
Total 1000 100% 33% 330

Now, management or customer instructs you to add one more activity. Note that the Estimated Mhrs will increase, the distribution weights will change per each activity, and therefore the overall progress (based on resource) will also change (lower).

Activity Estim. MH Weight Progress Earned
-------- --------- ------ -------- ------
Act. 1 150 14% 100% 150
Act. 2 250 23% 60% 150
Act. 3 200 18% 15% 30
Act. 4 180 16% 0% 0
Act. 5 220 20% 0% 0
Act. 6 100 9% 0% 0
--------- ------ -------- ------
Total 1100 100% 30% 330

Is this right? You had 33% of overall progress before the new activity came up; now you have 30% with the new calculations. Please, let me know if I’m doing something wrong or if this ok or what approach you use. I will welcome your comments and opinions on this issue.

Thank you very much.

Dear Yousif,

I’m trying to learn to write in Arabic but it’s all Greek to me.

Maybe you can help me with this one.

Hello George

It is quite frequent to have new items included in contracts (normaly we call them additionals).

One option for not having them mixed is to create a subproject for each additional. Another option is to create such a structure for the database that you can separte them and measure progress independentl (as well as the overall completion)

Any way you should always make a target for each revision you issue of the plan.

In your example you are right when mentioning the overall progress goes from 33 to 30% (because your project became bigger). This changes should also be reflected in your budget and so on.

Hope to be any help for you

Hi,

I guess you are right. That’s why it’s difficult to compare your Target with your Current Plan considering your sample.

If I may add your question, How many Target Plans does a Project needs?
