Tips on using this forum..

(1) Explain your problem, don't simply post "This isn't working". What were you doing when you faced the problem? What have you tried to resolve - did you look for a solution using "Search" ? Has it happened just once or several times?

(2) It's also good to get feedback when a solution is found, return to the original post to explain how it was resolved so that more people can also use the results.

Anyone know any web sites with good examples of design and/or procurement programmes for different procurement routes eg single stage D&B, two stage tendering etc ? I am specifically talking about the process from tender submission through to commencement on site. It may involve various design & approval stages, involvement of external consulatants, package procurement, preparation of BoQ, Planning Applications etc etc

I regularly have to produce them and am unsure what I am doing is correct. (As with most Planning related issues, there is no right / wrong answer, and each project will be different)

Thanks

Dear Tom,

This is very much project dependent. I am custom tailoring these activities per project. The overall concept stays the same, but the larger the project, the more complex the activities and the more details you need.

I can not give you project data. But, if you can give me an idea about the project that you are working on and the size of it, I can provide you with approximate durations and more specific activities if you want.

With kind regards,

Samer

Samer you are a star ! Many thanks.

This kind of thing was exactly what I am after

Do you have this in programme format for a typical scheme, that would further clarify approximate durations and sequencing ?

I could PM a private email address if so...

Cheers

Thanks Samer - That is exactly the process I am looking for, but in a much more detailed format ie a sample programme showing those activities spread over say, 100 lines. Then different examples for the different procurement routes ie just what design activities are expected to be completed at certain times for a single stage D&B etc etc

Dear Tom,

Design has several stages and procurement has several stages as well. It would be best if you model your process that you are involved in.

If we are talking about Construction, then the process is as follows:

Design
1. Design Contract negotiation
a. send out quotation for design offices
b. visit design offices
c. review, negotiate, and select design office

2. Concept Design submittal
a. Review three design proposals
b. Select Systems; Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical.

3. Design Development
a. Submit basic drawings
b. Approve Design
c. Approve General Design; Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical.

4. Detailed Design
5. Quantity Surveying
6. Tender Package Preparation

Procurement
1. Contractors evaluation
2. Tendering
3. Tender Analysis
4. Tender negotiation
5. Contact Award

Hope that the information was helpful.

With kind regards,

Samer

I have used that in the past Mal, and whilst they are useful for the general headings, it doesnt go into the specifics for say package procurement eg

Final Receipt of Design Information
Prepare BoQ
Scope S/C Packages
Send Out S/C Tender Enquiry
Chase Call
Receipt S/C Quotes
Quotation Appraisals & Meetings
Final Preparation of S/C Analysis
Prepare Contractors Proposals
Finalise BoQ / Input Rates
Confirm Final Price

You could try some OGC web sites..
These are part and pacel of a supply chain data base.
The links on the site will direct you around to some council docs etc on how the local councils should qualify the tender process from contractors..
