Grouping by Resource Name Problem

Hi,

I'm trying to produce a Gantt Chart report on MSP2003 which is grouped by the various resources. However, what I am finding is that if a task has several resources shown working on it, the task does not appear twice on the report (i.e. same task under the two separate resource names), but MSP shows the resource group as both resources with the task shown under the header.
For example:

Task 1 has Resource A allocated
Task 2 has Resource B allocated
Task 3 has both Resources A and B allocated.

What I want to see is a grouped report that shows:

Resource A: showing Task 1 and Task 3

Resource B: showing Task 2 and Task 3

However, what I am getting is a report showing:

Resource A: Task 1
Resource B: Task 2
Resource A,B: Task 3

I've tried using combinations of Resource Names and Resource Groups but none seem to work in a Gantt chart but will do in the Resource Usage View!!. Any help on how to achieve this gratefully received.

Many thanks.

"What if you create a resource group for every single resource?"

Rafael-- thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately I had already tried that and it just shows tasks with multiple resources grouped in the same way as the resource name. Will not give this one up easily though!!!

I no longer have MSP but from what you are saying it is like the default grouping is creating a Group for every combination of resources. What if you create a resource group for every single resource?

Many things are different in MSP but it can do many, don't give up.

Hi Ismet/Rafael,

Thank you for the responses. Ismet - the Resource Usage report will break down the information by resource inthe manner I want, but this is in tabular form and as Rafael notes, I really need to be able to show the Gantt Chart but with the resources/tasks as per the tabular report.

I'm beginning to suspect that the only way would be to allocate each resource to a customised Flag field, then group on this basis!!

Ismet,

The bars are missing, it is called Resource Gantt  in other software, different from Activity Gantt. It is the corresponding Gantt to the resource usage table. Tony is half way to get it but is still having issues with the grouping, he is asking for how in MSP.

Photobucket Regards,

Rafael

Pls try the following:
Use "Resource" custom report with Detail tab edited in Resource Report dialog box for Assignment | [x] Schedule.

Ismet
